In a radio interview on 2SM on 28 April, Managing Director Gareth Croy spoke about the rise of “finfluencers” and the risks of taking financial advice from social media.
With younger Australians increasingly relying on online content to make financial decisions, the concern is not education itself, but the lack of context behind the information being shared.
As Gareth explained, many people are consuming content from individuals who may not be qualified to provide advice, leading to situations where they only receive part of the story.
Financial strategies should never be one-size-fits-all. What may suit someone in their 20s could be completely inappropriate for someone approaching retirement.
Social media can be a powerful educational tool, but important financial decisions still require advice tailored to the individual.
