“I grew up in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia and moved to Australia where my first job was as a kitchen hand in a small Asian restaurant. My accounting career began soon after as an SMSF administrator, and that’s where I’ve stayed ever since.
On a day-to-day basis I handle anything and everything SMSF-related, but my role extends beyond that too. I work closely with other departments across the business, including property, lending, insurance, estate planning and financial planning, to ensure we deliver comprehensive and connected advice to our clients.
I realised early on (straight after completing my first client tax return) that I was finally putting my skills and knowledge to meaningful use in this role. What I love most is when that work is recognised. It motivates me to keep learning, keep growing, and keep delivering value. Also, I’ve found that being an accountant means never running out of small talk; money and tax are always hot topics…
Outside of work, I spend as much time as I can with my family. In fact, I spend so much time with them that some of my friends have suggested I should get a life of my own…!”
